ABOUT

“Your voice is such a treat… it’s like stealing a piece of candy after your mama sent you to bed with no dessert!”

Vocalist and trombonist elizabeth! (Elizabeth Dotson-Westphalen) is a native of Woodstock, Vermont. Since graduating from Harvard in 2000, she has been based in Brooklyn, New York, where she maintains an active touring and recording schedule.

She has played and recorded music with jazz musicians (Matt Wilson, Kenny Wollesen, Chris Potter), indie rockers (St. Vincent, Escort, The Silent League, Jill Sobule), and pop stars (Michael Bolton), and has had the opportunity through music to travel the world.

She has studied with Phil Wilson, Sheila Jordan, JD Walter, Michael Philip Mossman, and Antonio Hart – most through the curriculum at Queens College, where she earned a Master’s Degree in Jazz Vocal Performance in 2006.

elizabeth! has led her own groups around the country, including at Jazz at Lincoln Center. She is also an active teacher and clinician, and a member of the all-female horn section The Sugarhorns. Her latest project, a full-length album of original jazzy pop tunes, is due out in 2010.

She is an endorsing artist for Getzen 3508R Custom trombones, and wears sequins as much as possible!
