Brazil invades NYC!

elizabethjazz - SOBs Jan 2011

This past weekend, I played trombone at NYC’s “SOBs” with the singer and percussionist Nanny Assis, who has played with a who’s who of musicians of many styles: Phillip Glass, Romero Lubambo, Vinicius Cantuaria, John Patitucci, Leni Stern, Helio Alves, Nilson Matta, Arthur Lipner, and many others. This show was Nanny’s own band, and as it was a fundraiser for victims of the recent mudslides in Rio de Janeiro, it was filled with special guests! Brazil was well-represented through Samba, Baiao, Bossa Nova, and Forro music!

Photographer Stan Rifken got some great shots of the show! Here’s Nanny singing….
