I met Robert Di Pietro through bassist Rob Jost (more on him soon!). Robert and Rob play together all the time in many projects – such as the pop band Ursa Minor with Michelle Casillas, and with guitarist/bassist/singer-songwriter Tony Scherr – so it was an easy and natural transition to add Robert to my band.
I always admired what “DP” could do for a song. He’s a subtle and solid drummer, someone who really listens before jumping in to contribute. He masterfully lifts a song from good to great with a few well-placed brushes or drum sticks. He had great input as we developed these songs live around NYC. He’s also a melodic soloist; check out this drum solo from “Memphis Mix-Up” on the new album!
And I’m not the only one who knows how awesome he is. He’s toured with Norah Jones, Josh Rouse, Joshua Radin, Jesse Haris, Sasha Dobson, and many more great musicians.
Please take a moment to check out his own songwriting. Lovely!
P.S. Robert also invented the Wing Nut Drum Key! Drummers, take heed and buy one!
