New York = Small Town

I really liked this New York Times article, perhaps because it is comforting to think of this huge city I live in as a small village like the one I grew up in. I like to look at maps like this one and think of all the people who live in just one square mile, in just one block, in just one building…

New York is big enough to hold more than eight million people in hundreds of neighborhoods, yet small enough to sustain one obscure, marvelous life in the space of a few city blocks.
